The Lunar Race Begins

22nd of October 2008 it was a great day in the history of Indian Space research ,it was the day when India make a breakthrough in the Rocket Science by launching its first Lunar expedtition .This is matter of Pride for ISRO as well as each and every Indian who can feel it by saying that we too are competitor in the Star War.With the lift of Chandrayan 1 from Sriharikota India is registered in the elite club of those who have earlier sent their probes to the moon. This majestic take off was a memorable experience for all Indians particulary our space scientists had been eagerly & anxiously waiting for.

The spacecraft will execute multiple orbital manoeuvres and get in to the vicinity of the moon in about fortnight .Then a 29 kg Indian payload (Moon Impact Payload) with the Indian tricolor will detach from the mother craft and land on the moon. Its all activities will be from base stations located at sriharikota, mauritus, port blair .
This space program is a giant leap for Indian scientist and Indian space Industry ,now we are the part of Lunar club.
But with the lift of Chandrayan ,there were a variety of views and rumors were also carried with it.
Many of the intellect found this mission worthless and waste of money ,according to them what purpose it is going to serve there when many more such mission have been accomplished by others decades earlier. But I don’t find it a enough reason to claim anything about this project, if this is the case then why we are still teaching Einstein’s theory of relativity, why we are stil learning and teaching science students Newton’s Laws of Motion, actually being inquisitive never harms any one .We can’t say that why we are still learning these boring theorems when centuries before a lot of work has been done already.
This Lunar mission is sign of strength of Indian space program and will be a tailor for those who underestimate our capabilities . Some said that it’s a waste of money ,but we must not forget that the whole budget is very less compare to others lunar mission , as far as China is concerned it has approximately 10 times more budget than India. Our Lunar mission just cost 386 crores this has made whole world shocked and some countries are interested to collaborate with such economic projects.
This amount of budget I think is not a much big deal for our economy which is the third largest in the world, and ironically this budget is too less than the scams we found in India. Though common man is not going to get immediate benefits , but as far as long term benefits when there will be need of alternative fuels then this Lunar expedition will definitely going to help directly or indirectly each of us . Some may find it funny that when NASA was not able to find any alternative fuel there then what ISRO is going to do there. But we must not forget that NASA has reached moon just because of the cold war and erstwhile race between US and USSR competing eachother, and then it has turned its way to exploring other planets of solar system.
They are wondering in space in search of alternative fuels and space colonies (colonies on moon were promised by NASA decades ago but no progress yet) . Think of if ISRO finds some alternative fuel on moon or find suitable topography for lunar colonies , Chandrayan 1 has once again created curiosity about moon , everyone wants to know more about our nearest celestial neighbour which was always ignored by us .
Japan and china are our competitors both are planning manned mission to moon , in response to it ISRO has announced Chandrayan 2 project and is planning a manned mission in 2020 . Probably this might turn the lunar gold rush in to a unique opportunity for bonding among nations.
So friends keep your fingers crossed and wait for the day when our first manned flight will take off making ISRO and India a space leaders in the world.
