Reservation continued....

Recently Human Resource Minister Mr. Arjun Singh said that the Central Government plans to introduce 27% Reservations for O.B.C. in Central Government funded institutes of higher education thereby taking the percentage of reserved positions to 49.5% of the total seats. This decision led a protest wave against government in the entire country. Indian Prime Minister appointed an oversight committee headed by former chief minister of Karnataka M. Veerappa Moily to suggest ways for implementation of reservations for O.B.C. and to suggest measures for increasing seats in educational institutions. Oversight committee submitted interim report and suggested phased implementation of reservations in central educational institutions for other backward classes

Allocating quotas and reserving seats for backward classes in higher educational institutions is economically inefficient, morally wrong, strategically flawed, and tactically ineffective. The policy does not help the reserved classes and ends up victimizing both the reserved classes and the so-called privileged class. The policy epitomizes what is called a “lose-lose” solution, while foregoing a “win-win” situation.

Observing the Indian educational system brings to mind J. M. Keynes’ skeptical definition of education as the inculcation of the incomprehensible into the indifferent by the incompetent. I would extend it by defining the Indian educational system as a structure created by the incompetent and uneducated to produce more of the same sort of people. It is a system which ensures its survival through self-replication

Why Reservations are not acceptable?
•Caste based reservations creating more fights in the collages and encouraging the caste feelings.
•We want India to be a competitive country with equal opportunity for talent, but not for castes.
•We want to stop the migration of talented students to other countries due to the lack of infrastructure to house these future scientists and who knows they may be astronauts.
No Political Games, we want real leaders who work for all Indians and students, not for votes.
Who should have Reservations?
The reservations should have been for those poor people (Poor people are those who doesn't have enough money, but not those Castes that considered to be poor), but it's better to completely eliminate the reservations and provide scholarships to poor students to get to the higher education, then they will be able to compete for any jobs.

I think there is completely no need of reservation at all. The think, that, we need the most, in the sense of fair play. What people require today is self-respect and dignity. A physically challenged individual is not seeking sympathy or alms. All he wants is self-respect. And looking at the technological advancements there is no reason why handicapped should not be able manage on his own. And women of today are not asking for reservation all they require is all a level playing field and not a fake sympathy.

instead of reservations we should have pro-active policies to help downtrodden, rather than blindly reserving seats. Even the reservations for poor will be heavily misused as finding out who's poor and who's not is very difficult in a legal manner :o
